Trailhead Community was born from a simple but powerful belief: every adult deserves the opportunity to live independently, build meaningful relationships, and belong to a community.
For too many families, that future didn't exist. As parents began planning for the long-term future of their adult children with developmental disabilities, they found very few housing options that offered both independence and lasting community. Rather than accept the status quo, they came together with community leaders, supporters, and advocates to create something different.
The result is Trailhead Community—a neighborhood intentionally designed to foster independence, connection, and inclusion. Located in Littleton, Colorado, our 81-home community brings together adults with and without developmental disabilities in a place where neighbors know one another, friendships flourish, and everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and purpose.
Trailhead is more than housing. It is proof that when communities are designed with inclusion in mind, everyone benefits. Today, families find peace of mind, residents build lives of their own, and neighbors experience what it means to be part of a truly inclusive community.
The Need Continues
Today, more than 21,000 Coloradans with intellectual and developmental disabilities live with caregivers over the age of 60. Behind that number are thousands of families planning for a future when parents and caregivers may no longer be able to provide the support they do today.
Trailhead has shown that another future is possible. By creating communities built around independence, inclusion, and belonging, we are working toward a future where more adults have the opportunity to build a life and community of their own.
Trailhead Littleton was a beginning. The need, and our mission, extend far beyond one building.
